Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed quite a few people joining as many games as possible, then never playing turns. Obviously there was yourmom, but I have noticed another player, shlmnsr, who does the same. This doesn't seem to be a special case for this player, as their profile indicates they have a boot rate of 68%. Here's the link: http://warlight.net/Profile.aspx?p=629283030

Is there anything that can be done about this? Perhaps something that keeps track of a player's boot rate, and "probation" for players in the 70% range?

It's not such a big deal when it is a 1v1 game, but I have seen this particular player in numerous team games. I don't think it's very fair to the person who happens to joins a team with one of these non-players, as they have no real choice but to surrender, or play 2v1.

Ah, cheers. Although this generally happens in autogames, or games where I am not the host. Thanks for the advice, tho.

I've just had this happen to me in a real-time game, so I'm going to use this old thread to whine and complain. Honestly, WHO joins a game and doesn't even make their picks?!

-Do you have bad internet? Really? I use 3G internet from a concrete room in Thailand. Re-connect. If you only have multi-day internet, then only play multi-day games.

-Do you have attention issues? Good, come back here and create a diversion. Perhaps your randomness will confuse the opposition into letting down their guard.

-Are games not that important to you? Okay, fine. They're not terribly important to me either... but I'm addicted to this d@#$ site and you are directly contributing to a condition I call MAKING MY HEAD EXPLODE!

-Were you distracted by porn? Well, it's hard to ignore that 99% of the internet, but what with your ADD and all there's *no way* that could have taken more than 5 minutes. **Get back here.**

-Did your mommy make you leave the computer? You're lucky. Maybe she has food for you. Go give her a hug. Next time just leave a heads-up before you go. Though I might still be upset, at least it would somewhat reduce the head asploding potential.

*I mean no offense to anyone who might be afflicted with ADD. I, too, have my own imbalances.

Okay, all that said, I wish there was a profile stat for "early departures", showing the percentage and number of times that a player leaves a game for ANY reason (elimination, boot, surrender) before turn 3.

Being eliminated before turn three is always bad luck. I can't think of any way to apply strategy in the very first few turns.

I would settle for only including boots and surrenders. I suppose I could imagine unlucky situations in large games.
