I didn't see this on the wiki but if I become a member I can automatically join the ladder without having to wait for the minimum level requirement, correct?

to join the ladders you just need the "Mega Strategy Pack" (https://www.warlight.net/MegaStrategyPack). You can also level up to be able to join the ladders (https://www.warlight.net/wiki/Levels).
