Paying an SVG expert to make a map: 12/19/2011 18:22:35

Are there any Inkscape experts who would be willing to convert a drawing of mine to fruition as a WarLight map? It would probably take me 40 hours to learn Inkscape and design my map, but it might take an expert only an hour or two.

So, I guess I'm asking for bids. The map would be of Atlantic City, New Jersey, and I'm thinking about 70 territories with about 11 bonuses and super-bonuses.

Rough sketch of map [is found here](http://www.mywikibiz.com/File:Atlantic_City_game_map_and_key.jpg) ...

I'll award the contract to the lowest bidder (please, no bids over $100, as it's not worth that much to me) who can demonstrate prior proficiency in a custom map, who can assure completion of the map between January 1 and January 15, 2012. Please submit your bids to ResearchBiz@gmail.com. I will accept bids through December 31, 2011, announcing the winner here on January 1, 2012.

Thanks!

Greg

Hmmm...
Well, the sketch is good, but I don't think there're 70 territories on it. Perhaps a better drawing ground would be one of these:

Or, if someone has REALLY much time, this one, with every city block a territory:

Even tough it's from 1900 :)
Oh, and please don't pay whoever makes it, there are dozens of people who would do it for free, don't let people ask you money for it.

Wouldn't be too difficult to make into a map... the one issue that jumps out to me is the potential difficulty with the roads as they may be too narrow to fit a territory. The only other issue would be if you want the bigger territories broken up (Melrose for instance)

Honestly, learning basics of Inkscape isn't that bad... if you are decently proficient with computers you should be able to crank this map out in 5-6 hours. My [first map](http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer.aspx?PreviewMap=6973) took some 15-20 hours and its a lot larger than this one and I had never dealt with any such drawing programs.

In response to some of the comments...

I believe there are 68 territories in my sketch, but it's just a draft that may need a little expansion. Note that the streets are divided into territories, but that the areas between the streets are "black", not part of the playing surface. The beachfront area could also be turned into territories, and the three piers could be "connected" with those curved arcs.

I know that I *could* learn Inkscape, but I have too many other projects in play right now -- it's not something I care to learn, so I'd rather pay someone for their services. I doubt someone really wants to do this for free.

Okay, if you doubt anyone would make it for free, check the Alaska map. Kirby asked someone to make a map of Alaska, and within a week Matma Rex made it!

This would be a popular map for strip bar fans, gamblers, and American east coast tourists who enjoy " the shore". I love the idea.

Moros, the Alaska request had the advantage of a ready-made SVG diagram of Alaska. This is a custom map that focuses on business establishments, not counties or townships, or city blocks.

I guess kohser is the type eager to spend money on trivial things...

kohser, I get the feeling there are numerous expert map-makers on here who would all be willing to make the map for free, and given it's size and the ?27? day deadline you're putting up, it shouldn't be much of a challenge even for rookie map-makers. Hell, I would offer if I wasn't in the middle of another map project.

If you refuse to even acknowledge that some people will give you a good quality map for free, you're being quite offensive to those people, and I'm sure few or none of them would do it even if it is paid work.

Just my thoughts.

The OP wants to offer to pay someone to make the map, why mock him? It's a perfectly legitimate request. Might be someone around who could really use the money, who knows....

Well, i think i would do it for a membership...
...but i also think, you should find somebody for less.
Than it depends, what quality you get :-D

It's curious how my generosity is deemed "offensive". If the lowest bid is $0, then I'll go with that. I just happen to believe that our culture's creative output is on an ever-declining trajectory, largely because of this notion of "free" "crowdsourced" economic practices. I had hoped to show my concrete appreciation for the creative work -- work at my solicited request -- of another human being, but if that offends someone, then by all means, put in that $0 bid.

(Side note, I have not received a single bid yet.)

Personally, I don't see people getting offended by it. You may have some that don't show interest because of it but even that is rather unlikely.

I just started a sizeable map project of my own or I would consider doing it (gratis).

I see alot more people offer suggestions, and often links to pictures that could be used for future maps, and allow anyone willing to make the map make it..
90% of the maps on here were made by people that wanted to make them, either for themselves or for someone else..

Still no offers to construct the map, so I will extend the admittedly arbitrary "deadlines", so that maybe some of you who were previously tied up with your own map projects might consider mine for some later date.

Of course, once I get a willing map-maker, I will post that info here, so that nobody is at risk of doing duplicate work.

I'll do it, it'll only take an hour to make the territories, the other stuff about a week, but because I'm busy with Benelux I can only start after I'm done with it, but it'll be guaranteed done before your deadline.

I'm impressed Moros... the territory creation is the slowest part for me... the work done once uploaded to WL is far faster for me. Though I am rather anal with the cleanliness of the map.

It was a rough estimate, it might be longer, but because of the structure of this map there are much less common borders, and it mostly consists of straight lines. And because of both of these things, I can work with a grid, with 1 line every pixel, so I can place nodes exactly on the grid, and outline them perfectly!

Thank you, Moros! I look forward to the results of your work. E-mail me at ResearchBiz@gmail.com when you get started. We can discuss some of the details that were still a bit up in the air (e.g., should the beach be territory, or out-of-bounds, etc.).

Well, Moros, be sure to ask a good price for your work.
A certain wage per hour, a territory fee, a detail fee, a fee for anything you have to change the original map for, a fee for testing and debug, and of course an extra fee, should the map ever be featured.
***Kassa!*** :)
