Is making multiple accounts a bannable offence. The reason I'm asking this is because I am using a public computer. This public computer is on a large system sharing the same IP. If someone else were to make an account on this game, I could be banned if this was bannable. It's happened before on another game.

On another note, Fizzer, *are* there any accounts made on this IP. If there are, could you list their username. It would be so cool to play a game with someone who went to the same highschool as me.

Fairly certain that information will be kept private..
also fairly certain that multiple Identities from the same IP are kept safe, but with the new*er* waves of people coming in, there could be a possibility of some sort of multiple account defense implemented... \*keep in mind, only Fizzer knows Fizzer's mind, these are just my interpretations*

New people? Do you mean new players or trolls? Also, Fizzer, if you don't want to post the information publicly, could you please Email me the list. It's really no problem if you don't.

Emailing you in private could still be a privacy violation (note, I'm not a lawyer). The "privacy-safe" way to do this is to email those other accounts (if they indeed exist of course) a message like "Please take a look at [this](http://warlight.net/Forum/Thread.aspx?ThreadID=2495) forum thread; you seem to be using the same IP as Soron. If you don't do anything, nothing will happen, but *if you want*, you can post there to let Soron know you are attending the same high school.".
Of course, doing this for lots of people would get rather tedious, very quickly, for Fizzer.

regardless Soron, alot of places use Dynamic IP.. in which case you could use the same computer two days in a row, and have different IP's each day...

and RvW is right.. Fizzer would be *imho* out of line to give that kind of information out

and the new players, I refered primarily to the kongregate influx, and any other sources that are/will be causes of new players to arrive...
note new accounts =/= new players

RvW makes a good point. Add in the fact that its a high school and thus you would likely be dealing with minors and breach of privacy is even more dangerous.

Besides, do you want to be telling a teacher you play Warlight while at school?

And Perrin, you got beef with me or something?! I was one to be alerted to this site thanks to Kongregate, not that I often play there. (I kid, obviously)

I worded my post wrong. When I said I wanted to play against other guys from my school, I didn't mean my highschool's computers. The network I'm using is in my town's library, which is a very large library. I figured since my town is so small, and there are almost 2,000 people in my highschool. I'd probably run into some people here if I knew their usernames for this site.

Here's one *very* interesting link I got after I searched for "school".

http://warlight.net/Forum/Thread.aspx?ThreadID=2042

Same school I go to. I'm not afraid to give this information out because there are over a thousand people at my school and you guys don't know wether I am a Freshman or Senior.

Imho, It's irrelevant.
I don't have it posted on my public profile my location, nor does anyone else.. that information is currently private.. if someone wishes to disclose said information is their business, or if Fizzer makes localized servers, it would be more easily disclosed, but providing locations/IP's for people on his server to a player could be a breach of privacy. It'd be more likely for him to provide a location in the profile for you to put where you are located and then a search function to find members, then an individualized list using information the profiles have no control over.

Richard, I came originally from Kongregate, but before WL was released on it.. someone was playing WRII with me, and they were talking about it and finally convinced me to join them for a game, and I've been an addict ever since.. my reference was obviously to the WL release, and was just because of the possibility that an increased user base also provides an increased amount of trolls/cheaters which could become a problem eventually that Fizzer will have to create a system to defend against..

you won't get banned. I have like 9 different people who I played with on the same net work back in high school. There are times when we even had like 3 people using the same computer to play. So don't worry.

I have a roommate who uses the same ip (and sometimes the same computer) to play an occasional game here. It's a non issue.

From the wiki:

"You shall not operate more than one WarLight account in a way that gives you an advantage in a game, tournament or ladder. "

This is open to interpretation, but I see the simple matter of multiple accounts coming from the same IP being perfectly within the rules, even if they are all played by a single person.

Sorry but not going to read all replies,so this may have already been said.

You can have as many accounts as you want. I emailed Frizzer (think thats correct name) and asked. I'm happy to show his reply, if anyone would like me to post it.

I asked because I wanted to play more than 5, 1 v 1 ladder games. You are only looking at breaking rules if you use two or more accounts to your advantage. IE you lose with one to increase the chance of winning with another.

I hold two accounts and play both on the ladder. However I use one account for ladders only and have never played with that account against myself or in a team against myself

Brian

if you have two accounts and they are both on the ladder, you will inevitably end up playing yourself though..

You have to blacklist yourself. Or you are only causing yourself to lose a game. You can't win with both accounts.

Feel,

From what I understand, the ladder ignores blacklists (makes sense if you think about it) so there is no way to avoid it.

I'm not sure about that. I asked the question...... In fact, here is the whole email......

I've removed my email address.

Of course it's the wrong way round. Answer at top, question at bottom.

Hey Brian,

Yes, that is okay. The only rule with multiple accounts is that you can’t operate more than one WarLight account in a way that gives you an advantage in a game or tournament.

As long as you’re not doing it in a way that tries to fool people into thinking you’re two people it’s okay.

Hi Fizzer

Great site and game.

Quick question if you would be so kind to help. I would like to set up another account, membership. This would be to play nothing other than 1 v 1 Ladder. 5 games at once are not enough for me.

I know it's not allowed to use a second account to add a bad player in say a 3 v 3 game (this is cheating of course) but the only time I would have any advantage would be the time I play myself in the 1 v 1 ladder and then I have to both win and lose.

Am I allowed to set up another membership for only the ladder??????

Also could I team up with myself in the 2 v 2 ladder????

The 1 v 1 is the main question please.

Regards

I would think having multiple accounts in the 1 v 1 ladder is only a very very slight gain. Playing yourself will indeed benefit whichever account you want to be "better" but the pairing algorithm makes it so you would very seldomly play yourself. So for that one game, out of many, you get a slight boost.

However, teaming up with yourself in the 2 v 2 would have a very big advantage. One of the biggest factors (at least I think... i don't think my team is as good as the sum of its parts) is being able to reliably communicate with your teammate. You don't have to worry about communication if you are both players.

I agree with Dr. Typesomething. For example, my teammate is the WORST communicator. He spends more time private messaging the AI then he does coordinating his moves with me.

So, if I could just team up with myself, I could totally dominate the intrawebs 4life. But that wouldn't be fair to the rest of you, so I don't.
