Yes, you are right. I was thinking more of the Cantonese way rather than the mandarin way, because '雞雞' are traditional chinese letters, which is used in Hong Kong, and the cantonese way sounds neither like JJ or GG, while ‘鸡鸡’ the simplified chinese letters, is used in China, in which the mandarin does sound like GG.

also i want to point out Chinglish is more about bad spelling, bad translations rather than mixing up pronunciations of 'g' and 'j' (which iv never heard before)
