I'm currently working on a small 1v1 map. The main idea is to make the map look different for players: bonuses have different sizes, shapes (simply contain different territories).

I created a "base" territory, "outside" of the map, which belongs to all the bonuses visible on the map itself. Both players have 1 "base", and there are 2 different sets of bonuses on the map - with first and second base.

Map is 95% done I think.

One problem is with bonuses, the numbers are sometimes near / on / outside of the border (see the picture). I explained this in the other thread, currently working on the solution.
EDIT: SOLVED! Not perfect, but acceptable. See the result on the picture below / using the link.

Second issue is connected with the map balance - I need to pick the territories I can reach from "bases". Mind that currently those territories are not well visible, once I determine them I will add some indicators. I need some players for tests, to check more than one configuration few times. Apply here please.

And last thing, this is my very first map, but still it is not as pretty as I would like it to be.
Changes won’t be significant, most important will be to make “blue” bonuses visible on the map too.
(I already have an idea how to do it)

I love your idea to make different territories to different bonuses depending on where the play starts :D

Thank you all :)
Of course there is a plenty of room for testers. Not sure if you have time to play now (Holidays and stuff), I'm kind of busy atm. Will make some games with 5 days boot in a while.

Essentially, the purpose of this map is to present the idea better than words possibly could. I think this concept have some potential, if the map is made properly.
Everyone is more than welcome to copy it.

This map was done very quickly (started 21.12), started with some random shape, random territories shapes / connections, and finally slightly less but still a bit random bonuses. So, it can be not so balanced right now.

I plan to do much bigger map, possibly with more than 2 bases, with emphasis put on the map playability. Surely will take way longer to make, but should be more strategic.

I like the map concept a lot. Making a map look different for players is brilliant. I'd like to test

The only thing don't like is that u are quite limited at the start. For example blue can only expand from one territory maybe u should connect the outpost to more territories. This way it makes the game quite linear and could be boring after few games. Replayability is the key :D

Um. In the variant that we are testing currently, both Red and Blue outposts are connected to 2 territories (I call those "starters"):

Blue: Arra Asanea
Red: Lonel Mishi

In the first try, I tried with 3 starters, but they were way too close to each other. I couldn't figure it out how to move them away and keep the balance at the same time.
Trying with 2 now, tell me if you have any other idea with 2 or maybe even with 3 starters.

i dont really understand the difference to an ordinary map, the only that has changed is that you need to defend your capital....

The difference is that the territories that form a bonus for you, do not form a bonus for your enemy. Your enemy has different territories to take in order to complete a bonus than you do.

Looks a bit like an idea that i had and that i will evaluate later next year, or say it so: my idea is(the proof tht i developed it independent, is that i have a testing(not public) map made for it 1 year ago): you have a city, and the city and each other territory around the city has a bonus, which is the greater the nearer to your city. so the battle is mainly about the "Farmlands" in between your cities, there may be added a big negative bonus for each two cities, so nobody want to have it.

Alternativ: The Europe map is modified that way, that you have one Capital of one of europes big powers(in history, so GB,F,Po,Pr,Austria,Sw,Den,Ru,Golden Horde, Ott. E., Spain, maybe italy, burgundy,Novgorod,Persia,Hungary, greece or egpyt)
and it has a bonus to every territory which this state ever controlled

so the battle is about the "Swing States" (like Livland, which was part of Sweden, Poland and Russsia at different times)

Post me if you want to cooperate with me in such an historical version(i will have a nice map for you , where you simply need to add the bonuses)

Haven't got time to work on it lately. Today I do.

As for now, I got some feedback from the testers, and I want to make some changes. The most important is to add more "outposts", to avoid repeatability, to have more options to play.
So I won't make any new testing games now, but later for sure.

One issue that is now the main one, is how to show the bonuses. And testers are not unanimous about that. Feel free to say which one you like best (post here, mail me or say in chat game).

1) the minimaps - shown in the first post, only "red" bonuses borders visible on the map.

2) the minimaps and big borders - territories are smaller, so sometimes connections might be not clear enough, but you don't need the minimaps to know how bonus look - but you have to if you want to know how much it is worth.

3) no minimaps, rectangles as BonusLinks - more "traditional", therefore way easier to play, but kind of forced me to change the bonuses shapes. Right now it is just a beta version, I know it's ugly. Going to change a lot here.

This one have 6 "outposts", each connected to 2 territories.

4) Haven't done it yet, it is just an idea. Simply scatter the minimap across the map, BonusLins will have a shape of the bonus. I think it might work well with option 2.
EDIT: beta version. BonusLinks could be placed better (plausibly moved a bit off the territories), and the numbers position inside them fixed too.

No matter which option I choose, the final version will have 5-6 outposts. Currently working on option 3, and right now I treat it as the final one, unless people like other option more.

I don't like the traditional way of bonuses in rectangles, or eve big borders. I prefer the minimaps

I think that you should keep the map as it is, so with the minimaps. You could maybe add two superbonuses, 1 for 10 armies for the big landmass and one for the islands around it.
