Hi guys and gals. I'm not usually a forum guy. If this is in the wrong forum or I've done something else against forum etiquette, my apologies. I need to air this out somewhere, and didn't see it in the forums, but maybe it's there and I missed it because I'm an idiot.

Let me say that I understand this is a free game, and I imagine most, if not all people involved in putting it together are doing it for the love of the game, work very hard, and are generally just trying to cover costs. I have no problem with banner ads for that reason. I probably would not have had problems with other types of ads, even ones that are somewhat invasive, given how free this game is.

HOWEVER:

I play on my Android phone. It's awesome. I've always played with the volume on, and have grown very accustomed to it. The audio cues when watching a turn are helpful if the video slightly glitches and/or doesn't pan and scan properly (i.e. you hear an attack but aren't seeing it. Is it a new enemy from an unknown place? Thanks for the help, audio cue!)

So now audio ads play randomly and often. Yes, I can mute my phone, but that's really annoying to begin with. Doubly so because I usually play warlight once a day while relaxing, and am usually listening to a podcast at the same time. These ads are constant, give no warning to when they begin or end. I have to mute my game constantly, and my podcast experience goes to hell.

This is driving me absolutely NUTS. I really love Warlight, but this is so obnoxious that I may be forced to quit. Again, I get that this game is free, and that revenue is necessary some way, via ads. I sign off on a variety of means to achieve this goal (how bout with....say...the youtube model where you basically know when ads are coming), but ads that start with no warning utterly out of left field smack in the middle of game play on a device I'm using for multiple purposes is COMPLETELY MADDENING.

I really like WarLight, and hope that this gets resolved, as it severely diminishes my enjoyment of a fun game.

To be clear, you're talking about banner ads, not the full-screen video ads that play before starting a single player level?

I wasn't aware those were making noise, I can definitely understand how that would be annoying. Nothing changed in the app so it must have been a Google change. Can you send me a screenshot of an ad that's making noise to fizzer@warlight.net?

To be clear: I don't know, because I am only so smart. I know it's not a single player campaign (I haven't played a single campaign in so long I didn't even know they had ads besides banner ads now). I only play multi-player games. I went running to my task manager to see if something secretly opened a video player, internet browser, etc. Nothing but the Warlight app. So is it the banner ad (see below), is it another ad playing somewhere somehow simultaneously through methods I cannot detect? I don't know. The banner ads look the same to me, they're animated, but silent. When they are not static, the audio does not comport with the movement in the banner ad. I really don't think it's the banner ad proper playing this audio, but what I don't know about the inner-workings of how these ads work is beyond my knowledge. The audio *feels* like there may be an accompanying video and a bug is at work here....but again...I don't know.

If I'm making it sound like it may not be the Warlight app (with talk of it populating some phantom internet browser or something), this phenomenon only occurs while I'm playing Warlight, and not with any other app on my phone.


Sometimes the ad I hear is the for the same product/company as what's in the banner ad at the top of the screen. Sometimes it's a completely different product/company relative to the banner ad. I really don't think that a screenshot would help, as the visual interface appears completely the same as before this started. If you think otherwise I can endeavour to try and send you one.

On a personal note, regardless of outcome, I appreciate how you responded so promptly!

Yep noticed it a few days ago and first few times i didnt even know where it was originating from as it had nothing to do with the banner. Single player games are also affected. I also dont mind the banners in free play but the random audio is distracting to say the least.

Update: just played a single player level with no audio intrusion maybe google fixed it! Thank you fizzer for creating a game so addicting I have to complain when things go wrong like a junkie with some bunk smack that does not do the job and winds up shivering in the corner.
