I can't find this anywhere in the site. A player just surrendered to me, but I don't know how he did it.

It would have been useful to know in an earlier game when I had no chance of winning.

At lower left, below "Chat", "Cards", etc., click on "Players". This will give you information about the players in the game regarding their income, territories, and so on. At the top of this box is a button marked "Surrender". Click that. :)

Also, A host has the option to make surrenders automatic or manual. If the host makes it automatic, the moment you click on "surrender" you are removed from the game. However if the host makes it manual then every other player in the game has to accept your surrender.

I see the surrender button. What I can't find is where the "accept surrender" button is on the other side. How do I accept a surrender?

An offered surrender is shown as a grey bubble below the players name to the bottom right in the game roster. If you click the player's name a window should open showing his surrender status and who else has accepted.
