|>.Black and Gold would be pretty sick|>

Black and Gold is a pretty sweet color combination but I may be a little impartial being a Bruins fan... (sorry NuckLuck!)

Sir Death, I still disagree with your first reason, but can understand fully your second and third reasons.
and am quite sure I haven't made any games to invite you to. but if I had, me and a portion of the community generally ignore boot times, and -most- of that portion wouldn't cheat even if/when we find ways too.

in fact.. I am playing with someone with the same mentality.. the main reason he is playing with -me- is because me and him are related, but he'll probably never be in a MP game with anyone else..

Still I won't risk it. Single player is more fun for me. I like making tricky games (the so-called "fair shares" etc etc) and trying them out on my own against the AI. I don't want to bother other people with my obsession with calculations, so I do it all against the AI, which doesn't have emotions, so it won't be bothered. Trust me, you 'll get bored if you watch me play. What's more, there is that booting option, which sounds awful as a potential, no matter how I 'd be doing in the game. Some selfish players will definitely want to boot a defensive player such as me, so that they will expand faster and win the game more easily. The AI doesn't boot me as far as I have seen, and if at some time it does, it will be the last time I will have played this game.

Death, booting is only an issue if you take too long and exceed the boot time. Shouldn't be a problem in any multi-day game and same for real-time if you pay attention to settings or configure it yourself.

Still will prove much slower than AI games though simply based on waiting for opponents.

Thanks for clearing this out, Richard, thing is that some players seem to be able to boot someone in no time, let alone that I have a life to care about. To avoid getting booted, I assume I must remain stuck on the game (therefore my PC) during the entire game. This is also a reason for me not to be willing to wait for everyone else to end their turns. Warlight was intended to be a multiplayer game, but it turns out to be more fun in single player... What an irony...

I think szeweningen's idea of black is good, however I think it would blend in with the background of most maps. What about an achievement system where you unlock new colors as you play?

creeping death, multiday games have very long boot times. go to the open games page and set the default to multiday. you can obsess over numbers for days and not be booted if you like.

I know this is a bit off the main topic but I thought I'd respond to what Creeping Death has been saying:

Boot times such as you're describing where you'd have to remain glued to your computer and play the game out are only in the games you join with 5-minute boot timers on them. You generally hear a lot of complaining on the forums from people who are upset for being booted in such a game but the reality of the situation is that they joined those games explicitly knowing that if they didn't take their turn within 5 minutes, they were liable to be booted by anyone for any reason. Personally, I don't enjoy these games at all, have *never* joined a 5-minute boot game, and very rarely will play a game out in any great length in one sitting. As this is the case for me, I will only join games that typically involve boot timers of 2-3 days (or more) as I can generally guarantee that I can make at least 1 move per day in any active games I have ongoing. I think this could be an option that you might find you really enjoy if you had 2-3 days worth of time to plot out as defensive a strategy as you'd like.

The only reason I even responded with my 2 cents is that it sounds like you genuinely enjoy the game of Warlight and I would hate for you to pass up the opportunity to experience the Multiplayer aspects of this game simply because of some misconstrued information you had regarding the way it works.

I'd also be happy to play a game against you (or with you) without any fear of you being booted. Let me know if you're interested and I can set something up.

PS - I think Gold and Black color options would be awesome.

The achievement system seems like a fine idea. Maybe we could have gold colour for (for example) a complete set of gold stars in single player. I think that might be suitable. For black, maybe we could add someday an ultra-hard black challenge, which would unlock those colours.

P.S. That'd make those colours very rare, I know very little people with 6 gold stars (mor, rayguns, Diabolicus). I myself never had the patience to work hard on the Insane challenge, so that idea seems applicable. Is Fizzer around, I'd like to hear from him about that...

It's too easy to cheat on single-player levels, unfortunately.

Mr. Eitz, the problem is that I can't guarantee that I can constantly make it to one move per day. Despite me trying to keep myself organised and with enough free time, I can't actually guarantee that I will have this time every single day. Otherwise I 'd probably change my decision after reading what you wrote. Of course I enjoy this game, but as I haven't had the best of experiences when playing online games against human opponents (I fall on all the trolls, cheaters and so on), I prefer to stick to single player mode for this one, so that I make sure the fun doesn't go away. It's not at all fun to constantly fall on trolls and cheaters. And since there is no guarantee for me not to fall on such people again, I think I have to stick to playing against the AI. Someone else wrote that it's very easy to cheat on single-player levels, but to be honest I think this is pointless. In fact, what I do is to create various templates (from quite easy to practically impossible), as I think of Warlight as a nice exercise for the brain. Otherwise I wouldn't ever bother to go on playing at all. Plus, a thing I don't like is that I can't change the luck influence rate, which is set to 75% and in most cases works against me (according to detailed calculations). I 'd like the default setting of luck influence to be 0%, so that plans can actually be carried out more correctly. And, to return to the colour issue, a good way to do the black colour is to put a metallic shine on it, so that borders between black territories will be visible. The gold colour must also have a metallic shine, just so that it looks like gold, as I also said above. Now I 'd like you to tell me what you think of my own ideas: the blueish silver and the silverish green. My opinion is that Warlight needs more metallic colours than just the orange red and the electric purple, what do you think?
