I have been looking for Penderecki: Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima forever. I forgot its name and it is a really hard piece of music to put into a search bar. I have to thank you so much for that link.

I believe that Yuki Kajiura is one of the the great composers of our time. The extent variety and beauty of her work is always astounding.

I like to listen to pop, with a strong beat, while playing WarLight.

Haha. I was trying to be a bit challenging with my post. I'm also into many other styles of music... maybe I'll cobble together a different set of "friendly" youtube links if I decide to care enough. :3

L, interesting to hear which you like and which you don't. You seem to universally embrace experimental music played with instruments and reject experimental music played with (or augmented with) electronics. I would guess that you favor notes (and the progression thereof) over textures & the nature of the sounds themselves? With the exception of 4'33" perhaps... Very strange from my perspective, but of course taste in music is subjective and I've often disagreed with other people's tastes. I'll bet you and I listen to Free Jazz very differently!

Noct, very happy you happened to rediscover that excellent piece of music! Took me a while to re-find it myself, eventually a search of "Hiroshima orchestral piece" ended up doing the trick.

Have to completely disagree with your assessment of Kajiura though... all her music just sounds the same to me. In the genre of video game & anime composers, I'd definitely have to pick Yoko Kanno over Yuki Kajiura.

Also the .hack//SIGN soundtrack has THE MOST HILARIOUS engrish ever! How come I must know the direction of relieving~

Oh and thanks guys for introducing me to Charles-Valentin Alkan.

@Noct - I wasn't expecting .hack, very nice. The Impossible Duet is wonderful to of course.

@Pushover - Indeed. I am not a huge fan of, as you said, experimental electronic music. Although that may just be that I haven't heard the right sort. A few of the things you put up were just jarring and unpleasant to me. I try to be as open as possible with music, but some things are pushing the limits of my endurance. Yes. It is such that the small (or large) differences in thinking can affect how we perceive the things around us. I believe that people see colours differently and things like that. It is all the mental image our personas create.

@Pushover i guess since I come from a background in Celtic and German music so those elements of Yuki's that can make her songs sound generic sound quite distinct to me.

You kinda have to be a Whovian to get what it is about but i feel the music can stand alone.

Oh I see Noct. Yeah, I tend not to pick out the nuances you do. I mean it's very good music, I just get tired of it, lol.

If anyone actually listens to all of this, I give you props. Really great stuff here, imho. If you have questions about anything or comments about pieces I would love to talk about them.

(Edit: Does anyone know why it makes every other link a clicky link? I wanted them all to be.)

Noobschool, you need to put an extra space character at the end of each of your links. Forum bug.

But from the ones I could click: Doreen Ketchens - holy shit! Blew me away! And the percussion stuff is freaking awesome. I've always liked that kind of stuff but haven't listened to much, mostly Evelyn Glennie and stuff on the Bang On A Can label. In particular I *really* enjoyed 8 on Three and 9 on Two.

Chicken, I'd like (most) french house a lot better if it didn't rely so much on the sidechain. Lately I've been on a bit of an italodisco kick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2KvpPUFIlk
