A girl I know is playing this space game, and asked me to make a map of that game, as a Warlight map, and I may have accidentally agreed to look into it.

But before contacting the other game, and their developers, and asking for permission to use their sector maps and setup, is anyone else working on it?

Else I'll contact them tomorrow and start cracking.

I've written to the guys behind Pardus, and asked for permission to use some of their creations, which usually is granted.
The layout can be found here: http://www.thebluesuncorporation.com/pardusmap/Artemis/sectors.html where names for each square is.

I'll keep this thread updated with news on this project.

Actually no, didn't intend to make it look like I wanted you to think I was getting laid, more an attempt to make a joke out of it. :)

Mainly I won't because Miss Kvich wouldn't be so thrilled about it.. :P

We definately need some more fun space-maps. The ones we have are a little small and limiting in the connection-department.

Thank you, and since we are debating whether I get laid or not, I'm sure I will, just not from her I'm making this map for.

I'm trying to keep it as close to the original map as possible in terms of connections, which will end up giving some connections where possible there shouldn't, and some connections, which looks like they should be there, but aren't.

I'm done drawing the map, missing bonus squares, drawing connections, and giving each sector a ID.

oh yes i would love to see some more space maps too however i do worry about a map that is so linear in terms of where you can move. Just look at the London underground map, in Principe its a fun and exiting however when you play it its very limiting.

i always think the best maps are ones with a mixture of choke points and larger areas however i am excited to see what you can come up with. id be happy to help test it out once you have it ready

also in terms of sex life....erm....everyone know that playing warlight doesn't get you girls haha... but we are all still here

General Mac sir, I'm not here to get girls, but I do know a few girls playing. :P the missus* being one of them.

In terms of the map, I think, and hope, it will be a different experience than the London tube map. (which is actually just as complicated as our underground transportation here in London)
It should offer some different tactics and playstyles, and also hopefully a diplomatic scenario or 3.
It should have a handful of choke points, but in terms of large areas, not so sure of what you mean. If it's more than 2 attack options from a single land/tile/sector etc, many will have that, but more than 3 attack options will be more limited.


This is a snapshot of part of the map, and how I plan on having the connections.
Fadaphi, as shown with the blue lines, will be connected to ZU 3-239, Greenso, Silaad, Oucanda and Cegreeth, but not Xeho, despite it being "bordering" each other
Also Cegreeth will be connected to AB 5-848, while not being directly next to each other.

The map may end up being a bit restrictive in the ways to go, but should hopefully have options for many different tactics, routes of attack etc.

* Missus being another English word for wife/girlfriend.

Another update on the map project.
Have given about 200 territory's an ID, which is about half way, still need to ID the bonus squares, and draw connections, before uploading the map, and work on the online part.

Finished drawing the connections, and just need to name the bonuses.

A crude version can be seen here, with all the intended connections.



Most, if not all of the "missing" connections are intended, as per the original map.

Stuff still to come:
Renaming some bonus squares to fit the actual name, not short name (FHC is Federation Human Core)
More bonus squares, to make local deployment an interesting option.
Colours to fit the actual map in some sense.
Super bonus and possible mega bonus.

Naming all the sectors, and making all the connections, and bonuses.
Should be testable tomorrow if the Missus wont mind. :P

Hey

The link doesn't work please add a new one. From what i can see it looks good. But maybe u can add some background features, like galaxies and quasars just to add a bit of depth and flavor.

Yeah working on a background for it, have found a great picture, but can't seem to get it working, will look at a tool to convert it into a svg file tommorow, and also fixing the link.
Currently not on my pc, but phone so can't really do much other than writing here. :)
I'm very excited to read everyone is looking forward to it, and with some luck, I should have a testing version available Saturday or Sunday at latest. Since the basic svg is done, just need to add 400 odd names, sort bonuses, colours and connections. :)

hmmm... no offence, but this seems like a boring map to me,

its just capturing boxes on a grid... not much fun imo.

Well hopefully it will be a little different than just capturing boxes. :)

Edit:
All the bonuses have been given an ID (name) currently looking to add a few background pictures pictures, which is proving harder than anticipated, mainly to keep it within 1400KB (600 is used on the map) but as shown on the current frame, I can get image working now.
Once that is sorted, I'll upload the final frame, and start working on the names, setting up the bonuses, connections and such.

Connections, bonuses and names are being filled in now, which is the final state, and should, with some dedication, be done tomorrow, and ready for testing.
