Duke's proposed wager with Chas: 3/1/2011 15:31:36

Chas and I are about to face off in a ladder game. I proposed that we make it more interesting and add the following wager:

"If I win Chas would change his color permanently and if Chas wins I change my name for a week to "Chas is better than Duke" or something similar of Chas's choosing.

Chas said he thought this was imbalanced and I would have to change my name for a longer period (he suggested a year!). I said I'd abide by the (in)finite wisdom of the forum, so what do you think would be a fair bet?

BTW: the ladder will not be held up pending the result as Chas would also like to choose the game varient -- to which I will reluctantly acceed (as I have no choice).

you already can only change your name every 20 days, so it would have to stay for at least that long.

A week isn't nearly embarrassing enough, but a year is pretty long. I'd go at least a month.

The more I think about it the name and the color change should probably be of equal lengths...

the color change, once reverted back, has no record of the loss.. the name is a permanent notch on Dukes Record

Perrin makes an excellent point. I may have been offering to much since the name is forever (and automatically appears on every post/ladder and game across WL retroactively -- 1000's of spots). Whereas the color change would really only be noted by me since the conflict arises with me.

Perhaps we go with my tagline (much less shaming then a name change) and your color, and I agree to make them equal duration. Say 6 months. What do you say?

We can make it this ladder game or a new game you create (with manual and low luck as my only prereqs).

Here's my prediction:

Duke and Chas play this match. Chas wins and Duke is forced to change his name. True to his word, Duke changes his name to "Chas' Favorite Beyotch" and notes the date so he can change it back in one month's time. During that month, Fizzer implements Duke's idea of having members get exclusive rights to a name, such that the name becomes unique and other players can't choose it. The other Duke then purchases a lifetime membership and gains exclusive rights to the name "Duke", while original Duke gains exclusive rights to the name "Chas' Favorite Beyotch."

1. "Chas' Favorite Beyotch" is not similar to "Chas is better than Duke"
2. I definitely want tagline vs. name change now.

Um, no. Actually, the color stays in all these games, forever - while the name is changed everywhere it was used (except for others' forum posts). And hardly anyone scrolls down the page to see old names.

Also, I'm using the same color as you two :(

I could care less about the color retrospectively -- the value is in not being conflicted out of my color choice in games with Chas. The value for Chas is advertsing his superiority at WL.

Perrin's point is that old names appear on the bottom of your profile forever. See: Fizzer fka Randy

Matma, but 3 years from now, when someone looks at Duke's profile, they'll see at the bottom /*Chas kicked my arse bad!* or W/e he changes his name to.. while the odds of anyone looking at the games during this duration is slight maybe a month after these games are done being played, and chas would be back to the then current games having his preferred color..

the only way Duke could ever take the namechange off of his *present* profile, in said theoretical future, would be by making a new account.

Looks like Chas lost that one. Chas gets nothing out of my changing my color sicne it goes by seniority (earliest to join WL). That's why I offered the name change, but I forgot it wasn't temporary. Tagline would've been more appropriate.

I also came from WRII, but haven't been back since I started playing Warlight. Why are you making all your posts in bold text?

I'm used to making them in bold text cause on other forums the writing is usually hard to see and bold makes it clearer
