Fun to play on, if not a little displeasing aesthetically. This can be a fun map for all sorts of game types, from 1v1 to giant ffa's.
The combination of seperate city bonuses that you must take to complete the regular bonuses opens up the window for fun and different gameplay if the host takes advantage of this in the settings.
Choke-points, rivers, mountain passes and other natural blockades make this map fun to play on strategically, as do the harbours and general layout of the bonuses.
The only downside about this map is that at a first glance it is ugly and hard to understand.
I give this map 5/5, it's a classic map that is alot of fun to play on.

I love this map! It is very fun and is not to big, but is big enough that a game will last a while. It is pretty well balanced as well. Try playing on the "forifications" or "war of the ring" distribution mode. It's a great map, even if you aren't a huge LOTR fan.

Despite my lack of success playing it, I love this map -- and not solely because I am a die-hard Tolkien fan. I also appreciate the interesting strategic aspects: there are terrain features (mountains, rivers) that create choke-points, and I really like the way the city strongholds are surrounded by their adjacent territories, allowing layers of defense.

Fairly lore accurate map, with plenty of choke points and paths. There are a few extremely out of the way places, and the game suffers some from no map wrap, but overall an entertainingly strategic map to play.

It really is a battle. After a few moves the fight starts, and does not stop until the last few moves. For the smaller maps it is one of (maybe) the best.

I liked this map. It requires a little strategy, and if you know the map, you can use the terrain to your advantage. A great advantage. There are quite a lot of choke spots that you can guard.

This is a really fun and challenging map. I have had some really fun multi-player games with it. The bottle neck passes and gates make it challenging. The fortified cities can also be challenging to put someone away.

As a Tolkien fan, I enjoyed it, the west islands (and a few other elements) are interesting (I do not rate higher because most maps have even more interesting surprises).
I chose this map because it appeared that it does NOT favor blockade strategy, but to my surprise, it DOES. Maps that don't favor (allow, enable) blockade are much harder for me.
What I mean by "blockade": For example, typical Earth favors blockade very much (for example defending Australia Antarctida South America requires blocking only very few tiles, roughly five: northern Australia, southernmost Africa and Central America). On the other hand, battles in central Asia in large Earth map allow blockade very little.

I really like the pivotal part that the river plays in this map! There are some maps that the natural obstacles are annoying but in this one the river serves its purpose!!!!!

Always a challenging map; I usually play against 6 players.
While it starts off with a little bit of room, you quickly run into your neighbors and it becomes a power struggle. Usually takes awhile to play, so its a longer map that you aren't going to finish in 15 turns.
Some of the borders provide protection from the other side, which is nice.
Overall a great map, esp if you're a LoTR fan.

It is an excellent concept. This can be proven when I attempt to use in a Multiplayer match - I can attract 5 other players in less than a minute! However, as the game progresses, I unfortunately find that I often become bored of the layout. Maybe have a more interesting bonus system, split up more territories? Have a think!
