Description

The bonuses on this map are crafted in a way that controlling any combination of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 territories within the same bonus will grant a certain income. Thus the bonus links on the map only reflect the final income you gain for controlling the whole bonus. Use the bonus table on the map to tell how much income you will gain or lose for controlling a certain amount of territories in a bonus. In case you struggle to distinguish between the biomes click on the superbonuses above the biome names in the bonus table. Also note that bonuses can contain 3,4 or 5 territories in them.

Please do not try to change any bonus value beside the superbonuses (All Biome xyz).

Special thanks to Lionheart who let me work with his map:

Great to see another map on this bonus system. You've taken this one step further and have bonuses with varying number of territories which adds another unique layer of complexity.

Love the color combinations and it is easy to tell the bonuses apart. Clicking on the type of bonus in the legend highlights all bonuses of that kind! This feature is so helpful on this bonus system.

I think this map is well suited for 2v2 and 3v3 templates. It seems to have the perfect size and complexity. Europe may finally have a worthy challenger ;)

I think the bonus structure makes the difficult. If you are going to play this map - make sure you have time to really focus on the bonus structure every turn.

I've no idea how the bonus system on this map is supposed to work.

I think I finally figured it out. A Group is 2 or more Territories together, and the number inside the colored diamond is the best bonus I can get for that Group. Instead of just getting a bonus for having all the Territories in a Group, I gain or lose armies based on how many Territories I have in that Group and its Biome (terrain type). So, for each Group of two Island Territories, I get -1 army if I only have one Island and get +1 army if I have both Islands. For each Group of four Desert Territories, I get from -3 to +1 armies depending on how many of those four Territories I have. Having one Territory gets me -3, two gets me -1, three gets me +0, and having all four gets me +1. I have a suggestion: Instead of having the word "Biome" directly above the numbers 1~5, put the word "Biome" above the different Biomes (terrain types) and put "Territories Occupied" above the numbers. This will make it clearer for future players that there are not two Island Biomes and four Desert Biomes.

I really don't know what to say about this map that I didn't say about the other one. Lionheart is to thank for the amazing artwork, and Issander is to thank for the bonus system idea, but you're still a genius for coming up with the idea to do it in the first place. This is what happens when three great mapmakers collaborate.

Like I said on First Nations of the Americas, please do more maps in this style!

Looks lovely, once you get used to it. Definitely curious to see how it plays.

I hate to be that guy, but the "West Coast" bonus is the east coast.

Sorry but until this map gets a better explanation for how it works, I can’t give higher than one star. I understand the concept, but as it stands, the bonuses as they are explained just don’t seem to add up to what you end up getting for bonuses and income. And yes I understand there are negative bonuses, but they simply don’t make sense as they are with what they add up to, unless there are additional factors that are not mentioned or explained in the description.

As much as I wanted to like this map, I hate it. And I hate it more with each game I play on it. The bonus system that worked tremendously on the Africa map, here is utterly broken. The map is horrid, unbalanced, and utterly crap.

The visuals are great, but that's Lionheart's work. The gameplay experience is negative.

Few maps have this bonus system, but it is as good as any other. It takes time to get used to it: strategy is different about where you start, where you expand, where you attack/defend, and the timing of it all. It does take some practice, but it's a different kind of challenge.
Haven't played enough to figure out how balanced it is, but w/ auto pick, you may indeed be in a big hole if you start in rainforest or desert.
Also, my eyes don't like the orientation of the map from left to right (instead of top to bottom), but I suppose that's because it renders better on the screen that way?

Enjoyed the different bonus structure and use of diplomacy card. It was different and that made for a break from the more traditional maps and games I have played thus far. Not hard to beat but fun. Well done.

I originally was going to give this map 3 stars, but after seeing the 16 turns for the gold star I'm dropping the rating to 2 stars. It would be hard enough winning this in 16 turns to begin with, but with the diplomacy cards being played against you by every AI within the first 8 turns, there is no way possible to get the gold. Getting the gold is the object in all of the maps, making it impossible to do it just plain sucks. The bonus system is kind of a cool idea, but it is way to complicated to play a nice relaxed game.

I LOVE this map. However, the biome mechanics didn't really affect me after my empire was a certain size. I wonder if size limiters could be baked into the map. It's theorized that many empires do best when they remain within their original biome. This is due to their mode of living and disease immunities being based on their original territory. You could have some modelling in this that provides negatives for branching out to too-disparate biomes.

Great Map!! But I'm confused. I don't know what happened to the AI?
Never gained any armies.
Never attacked me.
Never expanded.
It's like they weren't there.

The way territories grant negative and positive troops sounds interesting but its actually annoying as it is impossible to check and recheck and understand what is going on. I just outright ignored it completely and gathered territory as normal. And I don't think AI can handle it. The horizontal orientation of the vertical Americas is really cool. Having interior land chunks be connected via bridges is nice because it creates mini-choke points and prevents endless circular brawls and shows the flow of combat. But other times the land chunks are too weirdly shaped and weird that its not easy to tell which chunks are connected.

The bonus system is unintuitive, feels like having to consult a chart multiple times during one turn just to make sure it doesn't actually cause more harm than good. Otherwise a nice and well drawn map.
