Good fun, but a distribution mode or two would be nice. Also, very nicely done with giving the z-axis bonus boxes a three-dimensional-ish representation.

Metaltubbie, thanks for the link to the "connect four 3D" map: not easy to know all maps.
However, I believe you have been unjust in your review. This map is well done, visually much more appealing than the "conn4 3D" you linked. This is "truly" 3D with a simple cubic arrangement, with the bonuses indicated in a fairly clear manner. The perspective helps distinguishing the various layers. Sober, with a nice choice of colours.
On the downside: the bonus system is simple (especially when compared with "conn4 3D"): no diagonal bonuses, and unbalanced values. Edges should be worth less, since they are MUCH easier to hold, having less borders. Same applies to sides, which should be worth less than "inside" planes.
Suggestion: use periodic boundary conditions: edge, corner and side sites connected to 6 neighbours as the others. Example for corner: 111 conn also to 411, 114, and 141. Example for edge: 112 conn also to 142. And/or add distribution modes.

orientation is very hard - the grid doesn't help.

Really nice design, a little too easy though. My first time playing it I won in 10 turns and it only took about 15 minutes. I'll give it 2.5 stars just for the nice design, but getting the gold star on the 1st attempt took away 2 stars. I don't like the maps that are impossible to beat, but they have to at least be hard enough not to get a gold star on 1 attempt.

What a originality... this map is nearly the same as this 5-year-old map:
