what is with the 2v2, and 3v3. I will purposely lose in order to avoid that :)

Well we could do just solo games but that does not test teamwork at all. I put off team games until the 3rd round so only region champs would be in play, thus competative teams. Do you think it should be all solo?

If anyone wants Round 2 in map form, here's it overlaid with the clan map. Apparently, though, Utah doesn't know where it's supposed to be.

(NE [Red] and SE are supposed to be NW and SW, sorry)

And totals for regions...
NW: 39
SW: 98 (114 with Utah)
MT: 25 (41 with Utah)
SO: 69
PL: 11
NO: 74
CE: 108
SE: 83
VA: 92
AT: 85
ME: 99
NE: 40

Only problem with team games is that you are really dependent on who you are paired with. It can't be an even playing field no matter what. I think it should be 1v1 personally.

Ok, we can keep it all solo games no problem.

Thanks for the map Riyamite. I will remake the regions once we have a good idea of the number of players from each state

I was actually planning on using my list to have state competitions and a whole USA competition but with a different format :(

My idea was to follow a format more like the Olympics. As in 10-15 different settings ranging from 1v1 to 3v3 and you can represent your state in any that you choose and each tournament will be played in an elimination format with games manually set up. At the end, around 20 players win gold medals and whichever state has the most gold medals is the "champion state".

I don't know if we can do them both at the same time :( kinda makes me mad that I didn't write my plan for this event earlier :( I'll make a chat game with Chris and we can figure out how this can work so they don't interfere with each other.

I posted the suggestion in your thread, but you did not answer. You must have missed it but i figured you were not interested. Go ahead and run yours, we can use my invite list to get it started

Connecticut isn't included in New England by the way. Which is technically not correct, but the rest of NE will probably not care. Connecticut is the butt of many jokes in the north country.

Connecticut doesn't deserve to be in New England. Too many New Yorkers to be allowed in.

100% agree, Connecticut is Tri state in my book, they are not NE.

Also, this map seems pretty analogous to population across the US...except for Utah. Warlight big among the Mormons? I've ran into all kinds of Mormons here in Korea, so I've seen them in stranger places.

The problem with the state with most medals idea is that it would be a stacked field. Only a few states really have a chance at that (like Texas). It's about as anti-climactic as Olympic basketball.

chris- please don't cancel yours-- i'd prefer a 1v1 state thing to a big international, multi-event circus

I agree, don't cancel this. I don't think the two need be mutually exclusive anyway, since in one you're competing with the people in your state and in the other against them

I think what I will do is continue mine and see what ideas JSA has, then maybe he can run an international one after USA

I am still mulling over doing team play in finals though. I don't like it just being solo competition. But to do it right, I would need to do a RR mixed teams format so that everyone plays with everyone to make it fair. I will continue to look at that option and see if it can work (depends on how many region champions there are. If only 6, it could be done I think.

3v3 is possible. 6 players would result in 10 matchups:

123 456
124 356
125 346
126 345
134 256
135 246
136 245
145 236
146 235
156 234

But 2v2 is too many games I think for 6 players. with 4 it is possible:

12 34
13 24
14 23

So this is my thinking to include team games...

Round 1 - States
1v1 RR on Strat ME(10 players max each), winner and runner up advance from each state)

Round 2 - Regionals
1v1 RR on Battle Islands (8-10 way RR) for each region. Winner and runner up advance (A1, A2, B1, B2...)

Round 3 - National Semifinals (12 players)
2v2 RR on China (3 groups, all combinations of teams = 3 games each group).
1v1 RR on Guiroma (3 groups, = 4 games)
-Top 2 from each group (total points) advance
Group X: A1, F1, B2, E2
Group Y: B1, D1, C2, F2
Group Z: C1, E1, A2, D2

Round 4 - National Finals (6 players)
3v3 RR on Europe (all combinations of matchups = 10 games)
1v1 RR on Strat MME (5 games each)
-Total points in Finals is champion.

Utah isn't the worst outlier in that map in relation to population. Check the other thread (linked in the first post) for a map on who's the worst outliers. (It's near the end of the second page)

But 2v2 is too many games I think for 6 players.

Each row accounts for 3 games, 2 played by each team.
12 34 56
12 35 46
12 36 45
13 24 56
13 25 46
13 26 45
14 23 56
14 25 36
14 26 35
15 23 46
15 24 36
15 26 34
16 23 45
16 24 35
16 25 34

15 x 3 = 45 games, 30 games per player
