Says a person who lives in the fourth-best beer-brewing-country in the world.
Do you even have vineyards? Not counting artificial sites*.

*I really suspect some dutchmen or women already did go out of their way and piled up enough sand for a hill to grow wine on. Just because they could.

Fourth best ??

I don't even think we rank that high. United States, China, Germany, Brazil and Japan are the top 5....not the Netherlands.
Neither do we drink as much beer as we export.

Discount Heineken, Grolsch, Amstel, Bavaria and such brands and there is hardly anything left with regards to dutch beer.

Uh... America has a big homebrewing scene and a lot of tiny specialty breweries so there sure is some good beer to be found but the major brands all taste like gassed water (let's give them honorary mentions). China - is China (no, Tsingtao is NOT gute Bier!). So is Japan. Brazilian beer might be good, can't say, haven't tried one yet.
You may know about where the biggest quantity is produced but you have no idea about where the good beer is coming from.

Belgium - Germany - Czech Republic - Poland - Netherlands is my top 5 (yeah, just downgraded). The Danish, British and Irish deserve to be mentioned, too.

Due to the subjectiveness of our topic at hand, I am right and you are wrong.
Sack - err period.

is this thread meant only to showoff how well does sze know the chess history and/or grandmaster playing styles?
And is Aranka among the legendary players because it's "correct" to put at least one girl on the list?
i don't get it.

Completely skipped over this the first time. Can't let this stand.
One of many excellent Dutch beers:

Hertog Jan Dubbel

Triple-malt is even better.

You're naive to presume it was done for that reason.
Most likely szeweningen once again liked mocking the sentiment that women could be equal to men.
I'm pretty sure he found himself quite clever with the line of:

Zsofia Polgar. Me women grandmaster. Women can compete with men! Really! They are better! Are you here guys?...

In reality though the joke is on him since we actually can. When I was still active in it I even did manage to beat a GM in a game. Loek van Wely was his name.

It is my understanding that chess is the only sport in which the female number one has beaten the male number one. Long distance swimming is the only sport where men don't have an advantage over women, and they compete along side one another, because womens fat keeps them buoyant and warm.

Physically it seems women cannot compete with men in anything but long distance swimming. Whether Aranka beat some GM or not...

Wow this post went quickly from chess player comparisons to male-female comparisons. As for a chess player I fancy myself a Tigran Petrosian (at least in my dreams :)

As for athletic endeavors, women are competitive with men in pretty much any ultra-endurance sport. Take running for example: races of about 66k or more they are physically equal, and women actually do have more of an advantage the further the distance. Science tells us females have greater physical stamina in ultra endurance races of 70k+, with a greater ability to process pain which includes psychological stamina as well, required for such a grueling race.

Ultramarathon - no woman beats the mens records
http://statistik.d-u-v.org/overview_intbestlist.php

Synchronized swimming - too few men choose to compete in it, also those that compete are barred from the olympics
https://www.google.de/search?q=synchronized+swimming+men&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:de:official&client=firefox-a

Rythmic gymnastics - same with synchronized swimming, the appeal for men is simply too low, it remains a womens domain
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/12/sports/olympics/rhythmic-gymnastics-remains-women-only-at-olympics.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

Bowling - it seems that this is one of the fields in which women could reach the level of men, yet still their is no woman better than best men.
http://www.relianceiccrankings.com/ranking/test/batting/

Equestrian riding - Here women come very very close to the level of men, in fact olympic medals ranking lists a woman on second place right after a man on first place.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Olympic_medalists_in_equestrian

Furthermore women have also been known to beat men at Racecar Driving, Archery, Golf, Boxing and Mountain Climbing

The best racecar Drivers are men. The few women that ever joined the competition were no were close to any top rankings. Be that Formula1, Indy500, Nascar or 24hours LeMans.
In Archery much like Bowling and Equestrian riding we have another discipline in which women can compete with men, yet failed to have a higher score yet.
Boxing - No woman can compete with men in boxing. Ever. Its a discipline where the physical attributes are just too important.

+1 myhand - but i found one discipline where due to flexibility of woman body, they are better than men for no doubt - hard to call it a sport, but for sure it's a physical activity..

...

Ballet!

Ba Dum Tsss!

...

ent of list.

PS: Aranka - please - i took you serious up to the point when you mentioned Car racing... It makes me feel like you heard about Danika Patrick, or some similar female driver - yes, some drive astonishing. But 1) these are just exceptions, not proving women can compete in those fields as a rule 2) Although they indeed won some prestigious races, they are still far from beating laptime records etc.

So seemingly men are supposed to get by with the excuse "we don't have enough men competing in these fields of sports" ??
While women are not allowed the same exception to the rule ??

That's just hypocritical!
