i am similar with miyagi but i totally think more is better and that the 13 under rule cant enforce much to a determined person
but you could as u said only single player or you could allow them multiplayer but only with people they know

Considering the amount of interest you'd be pushing into Warlight, perhaps he would be willing to facilitate your program (disabling chat or adding filters) - You could try contacting him via email, as this post could easily be missed.

why don't you just create accounts and setup the games yourself, inviting them to play on a secure environment so they only play against themselves? on a realtime or round robin tournament for example. you can always talk with a few of the not so "colorful speaking" (or not speaking at all) veteran folks here and invite them to join if you want your kids to learn a bit faster getting their asses kicked.

+1 to PS's idea..

As for somebody who said that more is always better - theoretically yes, but in real life - for the community it's better if there are less people, but of higher "quality".. We can see what happened when the site was flooded by lottery games all over the open_games menu.. From the new player's point of view - especially if he is that young, playing this game may be a great way to excersise the brain, however as you can clearly see, some people even when talking "not so colorful language" may seriously damage the kid's self confidence ie by simple insults and aggressive talk.. It may be even worse if they would have point in their arguments (based on a noobish play etc - kinds not necessarily have that distance to themselves and are way to vulnerable for authorital suggestions about themselves)IMHO The disclaimer of 13yo+ is there for a reason.

Firstly, chat is not filtered here (nor should it be). Their average age is 8 and even though they have college-level IQ, some of us have language too 'colorful' for an army of kids.

If you're worried about that, let me assure you, it won't stop. We have some great intellects and a larger number of trolls and few of them worry about their language; dropping colorful hyperbolas is half the fun.

Do not be insulted, but I think because my stock of students regenerates every semester, they will take over a huge portion of Warlight.

There's actually thousands of WarLight players, Fizzer knows exactly how many regular accounts play here, it's just the forums that are dominated by several dozen regular players. Maybe the minors should stay off the forums? Other than that if these kids really are that good then maybe we have some new competition for the ladder?

Gargamel you seem like a bit of a tool, but this game seriously needs some strong strategic minds to take competative play to the next level.

Please please get them to play some games.

How do you plan to train them? if theyre chess players then they arent used to thinking creatively to solve problems, theyre used to memorising openings and understand pawn structure to win games. They read chess books and internalise the lessons in them and have totally internalised tactical motifs. WL isnt based on tactics like chess is.

You are a mediocre WL player and there is no "theory" for them to read up on. I suspect that they will play a handful of games, lose some of them, get mad when they dont understand why and noone can tell them and then ragequit.

Hahahahaha.....dead piggy.....you do realize that your comment was quite unnecessary, uncalled for, unwanted, rude, insensitive, unprovoked, unstained, nonconstructive, unsupported and may I just state in my personal opinion IDIOTIC (that is just the comment I do not mean in any way to imply that you are an idiot). Gargamel if the kids want to play warlight and if the site rules allow there's no need to ask permission in the forum, just go for it. But if the site rules do not permit, just mail Fizzer maybe you can come to some agreement.

Cheers :D

i am not sure fizzer wants the 13+ rule but there are laws that say if you have to give personal information out then you must be 13+... i don't know much about the law but it is something like that

I really wish the 13+ restriction didn't have to exist. However, I live in the US, and unfortunately the US has extremely strict regulations on this kind of thing.

In order to allow a child under 13 to legally make an account, WarLight would have to become certified by the government. I've heard this is an extremely difficult process, and can cost over $100,000 and has on-going regulations and complications. Unfortunately, it's really just not an option.

This is a very common problem for any websites made in the US. Even Google's GMail can't be legally used by minors. If you search, you'll find tons of stories of kids getting their GMail accounts permanently deleted just because they filled out a birthdate field. Example: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/gmail/V594OUj2pYM%5B1-25-false%5D

I can understand that the lawmakers feel like they're "protecting" the children, but the cost of getting a website certified for minors is so prohibitive that all they're doing is effectively cutting them off from the majority of the internet.

However, I believe it is okay for them to play single-player without making an account. Unfortunately that's the best that can be done.

if i understand right, the law is that if you have to give personal information to the site, its minimum 13 years old, right? but as far as i know, you dont have to give personal information to the game, do you?

e-mail, and you may end up by giving more in the chat. law says infants are stupid (which they actually are, but not necessarily in the way law assumes them to be)

Fizzer doesn't investigate every account. If you join while under 13, he won't know unless you shout your mouth off about it.
