there can be honor in any form of competition. i treat the games seriously. i treat the adrenaline-inspired or pubescent chit-chat less so.

I think being so serious about detracts from the fun. Do you play WL for the "honour?"

ace, you are a contrarian at heart!

mathwolf: "You've been added on my profile among the top players. A 1st place on the ladder deserves that. :-)"
ace window: "I'm honoured to be mentioned on a list that good :D"
why the change of heart regarding honor since mid january? lol

Being honored by a compliment and playing for one's honor are two drastically different things. To even compare the two is ridiculous.

oxford dictionary: definition #1:
**honour** [mass noun] *high respect; great esteem*
do you play to be recognized by your peers? even just a little? is the pointed #1 on your profile page after the words "best rank ever" a goal you achieved due to your own personal desire? if so, why don't you hide that section of your profile?
oxford definition #1:
**glory** [mass noun] *high renown or honour won by notable achievements*
is competing with the best and winning not a notable achievement?

Firstly, nice one calling me ace window :P
Secondly, since reaching the top of the ladder with a score that I will never reach again, I've lost that feeling that I have something to prove, that I have a fixed goal. So that's what's changed.
I'm here to have fun and get to know more people now.

interesting, richard. you can feel a sense of honor for what one says to you, but not for your own achievements? why are these feelings different?

I didn't say you couldn't feel a sense of honor for said accomplishment. I merely said that one need not play for honor in order to be honored by a compliment. The two are not mutually inclusive.

I don't feel honour when I beat a good player. The phrase I used, "I'm honoured to be mentioned on that list" was more of an idiomatic acceptance of Math's compliment

mutually inclusive? i'm not sure i get that part...
in any case, his words were in partial haiku form:
"Honour and glory? Lol,
dude it's a game."
in a game he mentioned honor. he did not provide any more context than that. being bored and sleepy as i am, i wanted to have some fun with words, as it seems you do, richard.
idiomatic expression: so you really just give a damn, ace? if mathwolf is reading this, he might feel dejected. lol
being an honorable man, i still stand by my words!
"i think every good/great player seeks [respect and esteem] and [a sense of achievement gained by] competing with the best." (adding the definitions of honor and glory requires grammatical adjustments)

You can stand by your words but that doesn't make them correct, it just makes you stubborn. I disagree that **every** good/great player etc. etc.
Many, yes. Most, maybe. All, definitely not. What's true for you isn't true for everyone I'm afraid

more word games lol...
"i think every good/great player seeks..."
the important part is the verb: seeks. i did not qualify the verb. i did not say "every good/great player *always* seeks." if i had, your interpretation is absolutely correct. since i did not qualify *seeks* with an adverb, your interpretation assumes something i never in fact said.
my meaning: at one time or another or perhaps all the time (note, 'or' is singular), every good/great player seeks...

father regulator, i communicate well with all my opponents. there is always a gl, a gg, and maybe even a lol in my chats!
as for internet forums being a place for intimate conversations, i think your expectations are a bit high. many don't participate in forum discussions for intimacy. i don't know a single player on this site who uses a real name *and* a photo of their face as their image. and the only way to become friendly with anyone is to play that person a number of times and slowly build up a rapport. i've played you, master regulator, all but 2 times. i don't know you. you don't know me. the virtual world is a shadow world similar to plato's cave. maybe in real life we could be...(friends?)...no i doubt that. i dislike your overemotional tunnel vision, know-it-all attitude, authoritarianism and penchant for cliches.
