Reading the rules makes it seem like ABBAAB is always the order. Given that, I'm a big fan of attacking Peru with 9.

I like taking Antarctica with 4s, setting us up for taking West Russia next turn and South America the turn after that. If we take Peru (really Colombia) and Venezuela at the same time, there's a chance that we can catch him defenseless in both Central America territories when we'll have an income of 16 to hit it with.

Lots of varied opinions here!

I know The Impaller can't read this thread. But presumably he can see who's posting in it via the Dashboard. I'm just going to pretend like I'm participating in the strategy on the off chance he notices and it throws him off.

I say we go for #1. It will secure a bonus with little luck involved.

BTW Are we going to archive these threads when we are done?

I'm not sure what you mean by archive, but they won't be deleted if that's what you're asking.

I mean like we could put the threads in some section so the Impaller and future players could easily look at this event.

Wouldnt it be a good idea to ponder over where our enemy put his units in the placement?
If we use our combined thinking power to figure out what the best position for him is, based on our knowledge, we are more likely to succeed in making wise choices.
Isnt it highly likely that he placed himself in africa, cause expansion in southeast asia is very restricted?
I mean it is unlikely he is going for india in one turn, starting from two places cause that would mean at least 3 turns until his next bonus from there on.
He could be split, one in scandinavia or both in africa.

My question is, what if duke is wrong? We should play through some scenarios and probabilities.

If he is in scandinavia we will notice and be able to hamper him still. So that wouldnt be bad for us. If he is in south east asia his expanision would be slower than ours. Leaves only africa in my opinion, but i could be mistaken.
What if he is in africa and he will go for boni (presumably green) there and not go and try taking central in the first turn but rather look for south america or stand completly idle?

In my opion we march best to brazil instead of columbia/ecuador, that covers most of his moves.
So if we move there he shows up at the african coast we can be almost certain he is going for green. If he doesnt show up there and/or in scandinavia we can march on to venezuela next turn.

So i would go with not going straight to columbia but rather brazil.

Well, if he's in Africa, we're going to take S. America sometime anyway, so we'll see him there and mess up his bonus after he wastes some armies to take it.

I've never seen Imp consolidate his picks to get a fast 1st bonus, he prefers to spread his picks out on the map. Very unlikely he's got 2 in Africa and 1 in CA. That would leave him too bottled up. His most likley other two spots are some combo of Scan, India and E or W Africa. If you don't know we're in South America (and we know from our picks that he didn't have South America as his 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th pick), then the right play is to go for CA in 1 turn. The counter is to head up to Venusuela 1st turn.

The whole reason we picked SA was to have a shot at a bust in CA (or Antartica).

Now I see going all 4s on Antartica and then putting the 8 income into Venuseula next turn too. He's very, very unlikely to make a move on SA before securing his other two bonuses, so we'd probably be facing a 2 or 3 when we show up with 6 or 7 (and the ability to try to bust the next turn). The problem is that he might get his second bonus that turn (especially if he got CA in 1 turn) and have enough to block us, leaving us screwed.

That's why I prefer to head north 1st turn and not risk showing up with too little too late. But Fizz's strategy is also solid.

If Imp holds CA or worse is able to push into SA, then were in real trouble because we'll lose one of our initial bonuses.

Pink -- we don't even know he's in Scan. If he is we'll have 5 armies there to stop him from getting it next turn.

I forgot to answer your question, Duke. #4/6 is what I would have done in a normal game. I did however, like #11 quite a bit too.
