You're only giving people more reason to Blacklist. Don't take this as hate from the community but more of a learning opportunity. Chances are, you won't even notice some of the blacklisting from people because there are so many people on the site. If what you say is true (you mostly only play with friends), then this instance doesn't effect you that much. I'm sure that game didn't hurt your reputation as much as you think. The thing that hurts it more is insulting others and making yourself look like a douche

PS - "invite me into a game you weird named person and you'll see what pants I wear."

This comment actually made me laugh.

There are words for you, much worse than 'cheat'.

_______________________________________

I haven't played you. I would never have played this game as I don't play 2 minute games or against inexperienced players. Spike played you and pointed out the game settings. I've played Spike and thought he was a good player so I checked the game out and I decided I didn't like the way you set up your game and blacklisted you.

An acknowledgement that you were going for a win in a sleazy way in that game and a statement that you do not intend to do it again might have gone further to reform your reputation than a declaration that you don't do sleazy set-ups when you play your friends (I would hope not).

You've done nothing to persuade me that you did anything other than try to sleaze a quick win. I put cheating in quotes because what you did is technically within the rules, it's just sleazy.

For the record -- I am suggesting taht EVERYONE blacklist you.

BTW the truth is a complete defense against a charge of defamation. To put it another way, you can't defame someone's reputation by saying something that is true but that they'd rather you not know about them. Like that they attempted to win a game with sleazy settings. -HTH

I am curious, why someone that plays Practice games so as not to get an inflated w/l rate.. would change 1 bonus in a game with manual distribution, then make it ranked? if you weren't intentionally boosting your w/l rate you would of kept it practice, aka, just for fun.

Duke merely said he was adding you to the blacklist because that is the kind of behavior which he finds despicable, and makes you in his opinion not the kind of person he wants to play with.

you asked why he blacklisted you, and he answered..

and as Ruthless stated, you merely made yourself look worse, imho, to anyone reading this thread...

"But as for a silly game I played and you think i do wrong, even though you won, you set out to ruin my experience on here. "

he caught on that you were trying to get cheap wins, and beat you at your own game

and don't get me wrong, I've played games with massively inflated bonuses, usually pointing it out in settings/and chat when/before the game starts.. and always on practice merely because it is so shifted.

/rant off

Maybe you should see if you could arrange to play a 1v1 with Duke or Ruthless. Give them a good fight in a fair game (or even, miraculously, win) and that would be a far better response than even the very best thing you could say here in this thread, so long as you were a good sport in the game.

You could go from blacklisted to getting invites to tournaments with the oldschool warlight core, and if you value getting your ass handed to you as much as I do, that'd be a thing to treasure :)

I don't like two minute boot games anymore either. I usually host mine at two minutes because it makes people play faster. For some odd reason in 5min games I find myself finishing my turns within 30 seconds then having nothing to do for the next 4 minutes.

Anywho, just played a game against someone I played before. We were pretty even through most of the game, but 32 turns in when I started winning he decided to boot me right on the 2 minute mark ~_~

I'm upgrading to 3 minute games! I wish my patience level was higher x3

i just played a 2 minute team game with candy, and there were several times i, and several others went over 2 minutes, thankfully no one was boot happy.. but I've had the same problem with 5 minute games spike has.. sitting there waiting 4 minutes almost every turn can get quite annoying after a time...

Set it to a 24 hours. Ask players if they want to play in real time and to let you know if they're takng a break. Fill the gaps with more than one game. Sometimes I'll start a new one everytime things slow down until I get to 3 or 4 real time games at a time. I can't do that against really good players but against randoms it's usually fine.

that is generally the best way to do it imho.. have only really done it with 1v1, or small ffa's, like 4-5 people though.. and generally people i know.. open games you run the risk of someone being a sore loser and taking 23hrs 59 minutes everyday just cause they want to annoy people..

Read the chat on this game for the sort of player he is...
http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?GameID=1206729

Basically ruined a 2v2v2 game, which his team were already surrendering from, by booting me to the second despite me saying i was there. Look at the chat - he "enjoyed" booting me.

I did wonder how he had such a good ffa win rate despite not having won a team game.. this thread explains it.

Yes Mike, nobody else in the game had a problem with me booting. as you can see, you took absoluely donkeys years.
Everyone agree'd. Once you called me names, is when I got funny with you.
Noone can tell me off for that, I never swore or anything like that.
I just did what warman45 suggested doing in the Rules Thread, if someones offensive, i get back by not being offensive. In this case, it was annoying you.

You booted 3 seconds after 5 mins. Anyway, its clear you are not capable of reasoning.

One of the reasons that i enjoy warlight is that there is normally politeness, decency and sportsmanship. In your case that is not apparent.

"My intelligence says I have a much better chance of winning, and of saving time, Booting people who waste my time."

I find a boot victory is worse then a loss, personally :/

"he took so long, and you're invading"

I almost never boot people, or teammates of people who are invading me, cause it cheapens the victory :P.. anyone else booting them makes it more alright, but booting someone just cause they are attacking you is shallow. imho of course.

To get back to the issue in the original post -- there is an idea posted on the UserVoice site called "Highlight Non-Standard Game Settings" which would make much easier to notice something like this before joining the game.
