Revision as of 14:23, 16 September 2011

The WarLight wiki came under a bit of attack by spambots recetly. Based on the combating spam page, I first tried to import their list of 170,000 banned IPs. While this presumably worked at stopping the spambots, it also degraded the performance of the wiki to an unacceptable level, even with APC caching enabled. Therefore, I took these IP bans out.

Instead, the wiki now uses a simple CAPTCHA for unauthenticated edits and account creation. It's an easily broken CAPTCHA, but we'll see how many of the spambots have code for it and increase CAPTCHA strength later if needed.

Other suggestions are welcome.
