Even considering that the Nazi Germany had somebody "competent" in power, eventually, someone like Gorbachev would come along and make it completely opposite from it's original ideas IE no killing based on religion and ethnicity (and no killing in general), and perhaps this lax in power would do the same as the Sovet Union: get out of hand and create multiple states (with Germany retaining hegemony).

I can somewhat believe total axis victory in Europe, but I doubt any axis troops could actually stage a land invasion of N America.

ah really?? 'Murican pride ^^ Then you should read this:

Giuseppe Zangara's assassination of U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1934 led to the weak governments of John Nance Garner (formerly FDR's Vice President), and subsequently of Republican John W. Bricker in 1941. Both politicians failed to lead the country to recovery from the Great Depression and also maintained the country's isolationist policy against participating in the Second World War; thus, the U.S. had insufficient military capabilities to assist the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union against Nazi Germany, or to defend itself against Japan in the Pacific.

In 1941, the Nazis conquered the USSR and then exterminated most of its Slavic peoples; the few whom they allowed to live were confined to reservations. In the Pacific, the Japanese destroyed the entire U.S. Navy fleet in a decisive, definitive attack on Pearl Harbor; thereafter, the superior Japanese military conquered Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and Oceania during the early 1940s. Afterward, the Axis Powers, attacking from opposite coasts, conquered the coastal United States and, by 1947, the United States and other remaining Allied forces had all surrendered to the Axis.

Japan established the puppet Pacific States of America out of Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, parts of Nevada and Washington as part of the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere. The remaining Mountain, Great Plains and Southwestern states became the Rocky Mountain States, a buffer between the PSA and the remaining USA, now a Nazi puppet state in the style of Vichy France. Having defeated the Allies of World War II, the Third Reich and Imperial Japan became the resultant superpowers of the world and consequently embarked upon a Cold War.

One of the core narrative elements, (Operation Dandelion), is centered on a preemptive Nazi nuclear strike on the Japanese Home Islands. The Nazis "have the hydrogen bomb" and the ability to wipe out the Home Islands. Their nuclear energy capabilities also fuel extremely fast air travel and the colonization of the moon, Venus, and Mars.

After Adolf Hitler's syphilitic incapacitation, Martin Bormann, as Nazi Party Chancellor, assumes power as Führer of Germany. Bormann proceeds to create a colonial empire to increase Germany's Lebensraum by using technology to drain the Mediterranean Sea and convert it into farmland (see Atlantropa), while Arthur Seyss-Inquart also oversees the colonization of Africa and extermination of most of its inhabitants. Meanwhile, the Reich sends spaceships to colonize Mars and other parts of the Solar System.

Soon after the novel begins, Führer Bormann dies, initiating an internal power struggle between Joseph Goebbels, Reinhard Heydrich, Hermann Göring, and other top Nazis to succeed him as Reichskanzler.

A Riddley Scott's adaptation of this novel is to be released soon!

Okay folks, new Topic:
What if Nuclear weapons were impossible? Event: No possible way to make hyper-devastating weapons. Year: 1955...
Following the brutal American invasion of the Japanese Home Islands on X-Day, over 1 million men on both sides were killed. With the Axis powers finally defeated, and America controlling a great portion of the Pacific, tensions begin to rise. By 1950, The British and French have Ceded their Germanic occupation zones to America, and the Soviet Union has brought the Iron curtain down. While American troops deal with occupation, Soviet soldiers slowly inch across Asia, bringing more land into the Union. In 1953, The Soviets put a man in orbit (8 years early). Tensions are high along the pacific and Alaskan (Which is still Russian) borders, and a war is brewing between the USSR and the USA. What would happen? Would their problems be resolved? or Will Communism and Capitalism butt heads in a true show of strength, without the threat of Nuclear Apocalypse?

depends. Is stalin still alive? If so, i would say yes, and I think soviets would have won. He had the balls and thurough lack of humanity to do what must be done.

I don't see why it would be a solely American invasion of Japan, Stalin was quite ready to take over Japan as well, and there were big interests in there. Who knows, maybe there would be a North Japan and South Jappan.

Soviet Union has brought the Iron curtain down.

What does that mean?

Soviet soldiers slowly inch across Asia

In what country? China, by sheer population would win. Afghanistan...we saw what happened there...Iran...possibly, but maybe a repeat Afghanistan...Turkey...maybe?

Which is still Russian

Alaska was sold to the US in 1867 or so.

Is stalin still alive?

Stalin left office in 1952 and died in 1953. It would be Khrushchev. I think it would be likely a lessenning of tensions. I'm not sure about American leader, but Khrushchev worked on calmer relations. I think he would avoid war at all costs. You may bring up the Cuban (not missiles, but bases, I will say), but I may bring up the Anatolian Bases. It was a smart bargain, two bases dismantled.

Sorry, it's just a short description, it's not meant to be completely fleshed out.

I don't see why it would be a solely American invasion of Japan, Stalin was quite ready to take over Japan as well, and there were big interests in there. Who knows, maybe there would be a North Japan and South Jappan. (The Original plan in case the Atomic bomb had failed was a solely-allied, non-soviet invasion.)

Soviet Union has brought the Iron curtain down. (IE, closed off Soviet countries from others)

Soviet soldiers slowly inch across Asia

In what country? China, by sheer population would win. Afghanistan...we saw what happened there...Iran...possibly, but maybe a repeat Afghanistan...Turkey...maybe? (without the American threat, and the sheer force of the soviets, lets say they easily handle the Central Asian regions. China is avoided.)

Which is still Russian

Alaska was sold to the US in 1867 or so.
(I thought it wasn't made a state until 1956?)

Are you sure? It wouldn't be too unlikely, since the Soviet Union took care of Manchuria, Inner Mongolia and North Korea, but all the same, I think the Soviets would be sure to invade Japan, whether the rest of the allies liked it or not. Actually, some of the originally Japanese Kuril islands were invaded, like Kunashir. The Russian border gets very close to Hokkaido.

IE, closed off Soviet countries from others

Are you saying that there's free travel to and from?

without the American threat, and the sheer force of the soviets, lets say they easily handle the Central Asian regions. China is avoided.

Central Asia was already part of the Soviet Union. And, although it would be possible to subdue the Afghans (since they were still in the stone age, without weaponry), it still wouldn't be a good cost-benefit ratio. Look at Britain's endeavours in the area, Afghanistan did nothing for them really, and it was a high cost to grab and maintain. Iran and Turkey are are the only really viable options that would have a decent cost-reward scenario.

I thought it wasn't made a state until 1956?

Checked, it was sold to US in 1867, but worked it's way up to an US state in 1959.

What if...

There was a communist revolution in the US that succeeded and then US became communist or truly socialist?

During the 70s, let's say.

I'm not sure how that would come about, especially since the US is so anti-communist during that time period. But let's say to does. Things would've gone a lot differently. I can easily see the two now allied superpowers supporting each other, and dividing up the world. When the earth is split between the two massive communist powers, they end up fighting. The US, simply having more of it's leftover capitalist resources, comes out on top, thus unifying earth under the People's United States of America.
(Time for a scenario XD)
