I am curious though, if all newcomers start in the bottom tier, and only 2 advance from that to the next one, doesn't the bottom tier wind up being far more competitive than the higher for several seasons in a row if a bunch of good newcomers join?

Nauzhror: that does happen a bit. It is a bit of a long term thing to see where your natural level will take you - for some that might be part of the appeal. The other thing to note is that there tend to be a few retirements each season which leaves more open spots to fill with domino promotions. This effects the lower groups most and often means more than 2 promoting, with some even skipping a group ("super-promotion") for top players in those lowest groups.

I'll stick with it another season at least to see if it becomes too much.

But it would be nice to have a small break between seasons also (a week or so) to thin games back down.

We still don't know when the new season can start as there are still 3 games in progress. However, we do know almost enough to show tentative placements for the new season. These will be subject to your questions and especially to further retirement announcements. I suspect further tinkering will be required.

Note that groups H1 and H2 are considered at the same level. Thus, at the end of season 7, winners of each would be promoted to G (or super-promoted to F if necessary) on an equal basis.

Last game of the season is now over. Congrat's to Ineffable for winning it and thereby escaping relegation to Group B.

With Grzechoo's withdrawal from the league, there is a bit of shuffling necessary from the Season 7 groups announced above. ChrisCMU gets a superpromotion to E; Grona gets a superpromotion to F; Marc2013 gets a promotion to G; and the H Groups are reshuffled slightly.

Season 7 can now start! I hope to get it going within a day or so.
