Subtracting is like adding a negative number.

1+1-2+2=2
We have:
+1
+1
-2
+2

If you add this up it results 2.

If you want -2 you need parentheses:
(1+1)-(2+2)
=2-4
=-2

PEMDAS:

Addition: 1+1=2 and 2+2=4

Subtraction: 2-4=(-2)

Also: A and S are at the same level, but it would be confusing to have them on top of each other. And it's the same operation, with the only difference that one is for negative and one for positive.

PEMDAS/BEDMAS/etc always has A before S

Might be because it's easier to remember than PEMDSA...

Anyways, you can see it in another way:
-2+2=0
1+1-2+2 = 1+1+0
=2
