I guess the Europeans had quite the advantage in terms of cheap transportation everywhere. Though Austin is fairly central geographically (right in the middle of the Sunbelt), the only cheap option to get there from most places is air, not rail.

Not sure how to work around that. Other than the Northeast (Boswash), it's hard to find connected megalopolises in the US. That said, it seems like cheap travel, lodging, and venues are always a thing in Vegas to get people through the door into the casinos.

So, a hypothetical- if the nearest big city (to where you live) weren't an option, how would you feel about Vegas? I have a hunch Vegas would be the most viable site if everyone had to travel, while any other non-Northeastern city would have a flake problem cause travel and lodging would be hassles.

Tbh, vegas isn't much cheaper than Austin... at least coming from new york... in fact on some days its more expensive.

tbh now's the time if we are to do something. plane tickets are extra cheap, as long as we can somehow verify we're fully healthy before actually meeting up. also, my classes are now entirely online for the remainder of the semester, so i'm no longer restricted by date.

Considering the lack of testing I doubt we could verify if any one of us is healthy. Also, the government needs to just full on quarantine us already. So I would say it's a no go for now. It's not appropriate to do something like this as long as we are at risk.

I'm definitely interested. It's ultimately going to depend on location and timing for me though, so no promises. I can virtually guarantee I'll be there if it's in Seattle or Portland. Out of the three cities that seem to be the most popular at the moment, I vote for Chicago.
