@Rikku: Factor in ROI, not just how much you pay. If you want to keep looking at this from an upper-middle class tax burden perspective rather than considering the whole of society- At $200k/yr in W-2 income, you're looking at something like $80k/yr in taxes (federal, state, FICA, etc., but ignoring property, sales, fuel, etc. since they're probably still ~$5k combined).
Unless you really hate Yemeni kids and love coal subsidies, what're you getting out of that $80k? Meanwhile, in the UK and EU, your taxes actually yield something.

That's a fair point Knyte.
It's just disheartening seeing blue collar workers absolutely bust their balls to earn £60-85k a year and seeing how much they lose. I'm just being pissey. Something I should of understood and not just known earlier.
