I never said that culture and ethnicity were the same thing. Culture and ethnicity do correspond with each other but they are not the same thing. An individual can change their culture but cannot change their ethnicity

Just came to chip in seeing that I'm half Basque on my mothers side, the Basque people do not want independence they get plenty of economic freedom and most of them have houses in La Rioja and Burgos that they head down to in the summer and weekends. I would have supported Basque independence under Franco but the people are nowhere near oppressed and great strides are being taken in order to revitalise the language. Overall what the Basques actually want is political prisoners back, their language to survive, and then of course cheese and patxaran.
