There's no reason to be afraid of background checks/additional gun regulations. People who already have guns (And most who care to own weapons already have a significant stockpile) aren't going to be affected. The proposed changes would only make it harder for people to get new guns, and if you're a sane/capable person you should have no problem getting through the new checks.

The U.S government isn't going to confiscate everyone's weapons, they'd be idiotic to even try.

I have an idea. Keep guns legal, but make bullets $5000! When people are thinking of killing somebody, they'll think "Do I want to waste $5000 on this!?"
