I am not aware. As I mentioned, I cannot see the video.

That is positive feedback, and useful. Certainly I could tweak the template and make the 2s into 1s. I figured the point of Sze's contest was to come up with some viable templates. That means he should encourage the development of these. Foster conversation. Test the templates and see if his hunch is correct. My beef is that a small tweak could make it viable in his eyes, yet it was basically given an F score.

I'll do some testing with 1s there instead. if anyone wants to play it that way let me know.

@FleeceMaster

I will gladly test every template on here with you and help you judge. I reccomend you also have a few other players help with this too since I am submitting templates and I may be accused of being biased (which is why I don't vote on templates). Also if your going to have all of the games played and the templates ordered leading up to the template contest winner and your well organized with that list I see no need to use youtube. Simply use twitch and you should be all set.

Feel free to mail me or send me a game invite so we can discuss things more in depth and specific things if you feel it is nescesarry or beneficial.

That was my point wct, at least you understood it ;)

Thanks for the offer MasterTurtle, I would certainly like some other perspectives on these templates, and I'll start testing the templates I have have the next few days, I want to make sure I get set up properly to record all the results and opinions before I start, also I would like to have my analysis tool online and ready to go ao I coalate all the data more easily.

If there are any other players who would like to join me in commentating and/or testing then I would be grateful :)

Also what is your definition of a 1v1 Concept Template? What is the concept that you want? Something that emulates chess? Rock Paper Scissors? Strategic Value? Playability?

Anything interesting really, I generally find the usual format of 1v1s very boring, they generally all have the same layout: Similar maps with similar territory numbers and bonus sizes, similar neutrals and starting locations (Random Warlords usually) and usually a similar number and size of wastelands. Usually any changes are very small and rarely effect gameplay dramatically. Any change that adds any kind of "new thinking" to play is generally frowned upon by a lot of the community and a lot of the long-time players have trouble adapting. I think that's a shame, myself.

Personally to keep Warlight fresh and interesting I have to constantly play around with settings to find out new interactions, there are plenty of settings and cards available, and often they are very under-utilized.

The main aim of this contest is to see what people can come up with that isn't done very often, and create an interesting and workable template from that interaction. Anything that gives the sense of "Wow, I never thought of using that setting like that!" will score well. Anything that looks just like a standard "strategic" template won't score very highly.

Innovation is the key here, but then so is workability and fun :)

On a side note my map analysis tool is in it's very early stages, I ran a map through it today, here's the results:

(Please note that it's in a very basic form because I have to recode it from scratch, if anyone would like me to analyse a map for them just PM me!)

1.) Cards bring different aspects of the game into play but some are just unpractical for competivie play.
2.) There are many tempaltes that use different numbers for neutrals (2's,3's,4's) you just have to look for them.
3.) The community doesn't accept a lot of templates (as you say trouble adapting) because it doesn't make sense to adapt to some template that won't help you in the rest of your aspects of warlight.
4.) There must alwasy be more than 1 way to win.

Can I link several templates with fog changes, mulitattack, strategic autodistribution games etc? I don't claim for any of them to be mine and unless the creator submits them I don't think they should be awarded prizes but I think you should see a list of templates that aren't quite so "basiclly strategic".

Anything that can be added into the mix will always be gratefully received, we can take into account that they are non-submissions in regards to prizes :)

I agree with Turtle.

The one I am creating right now has no base income, but there are strategic +1 spots that give you base income to start.

I think "basically strategic" games are nice, but weird templates are even more fun to play. Gui's LD Auto-distribution template on Greece literally perfected two settings I thought were not fun/strategic to play with before: auto-distribution and local deployments. LD was boring to me with more basic templates like Turkey LD (which I don't even think is very strategic) and cut down a bit on the boring aspect of it as it inevitably drags on far too long for a worthwhile game.

Thinking outside the box is better for strategic templates. Once in a while, a "basic" strategic template will be amazing (EarthSea I think is a great example), but the majority that utilize such basic and "tried-and-true" settings. I used to think that all that was required for a template to be strategic was just wastelands, 0% SR, 4 starting armies on a typical 1v1-style map.

But it seems that's a bit redundant and overdone with templates, better ones in my opinion use strange and interesting settings. The invention of limited distribution was nice, but now it's kind of become another staple to try and make a template strategic (for now it hasn't fully, but I can see it being used more and more in the future.)

I think trying out different an more complex strategies can help improve your skill in Warlight, also the variation stops it becoming repetative and makes the game more fun.

I don't want to belittle anyone who prefers to stick to what they know. But that's just not for me, I get bored to easily, and I think there are others out there too :)

Custom scenarios can really make things intersting when it comes to auto-distribution, as well as manual-distribution, and are something I have been playing around with recently.

This template for example can give players the option to pick the centre (much harder) but gives more income and more starting troops :)

It is a lot harder to balance though, granted, and seems to work better for FFAs :)

All the terretories except the ones in the middle of the small bonuses were pickable. The center wasn't pickable at all. 4 starts, wr, reinforcement card of 5 after 4 turns. It's maybe 1.5 years now so i might be slightly wrong
